ACCC reaches agreement with supermarket titans
Posted: 19/09/2009
The ACCC has reached an agreement with the two dominant supermarket operators in Australia, Coles and Woolworths, that restrictive provisions will no longer be included in leases for Coles or Woolworths' supermarkets.
The agreement is expected to pave the way for smaller operators in Australia, such as Aldi, Franklins, Foodworks and IGA, to increase the number of supermarkets they operate in close proximity to Coles and Woolworths.
Eighty percent of Coles and Woolworths' supermarket leases will end immediately and the remainder will be phased out within 5 years. |
